Adama: "Kara’s family. You do what you have to do. Sometimes, you have to break the rules." Lee: "And if it was me down there instead?"; Adama"...if it was you, we’ll never leave." I think that exchange was the moment when I went from thinking this series was damn fine telly to falling in love with it! This was a real kick in the chest for me (in a good way ). Just the emotion expressed so concisely, that despite everything, Adama knows what's important and is willing to fight for it to the bitter end. In Star Trek this would have been a big soppy, sentimental, overblown extravaganza but here... just a simple comment. Kudos to EJO and JB for making that little exchange fly!

BB - that's facinating (no, I'm not being sarcastic - as I was only about *cough* years old when Star Wars came out) and thanks for sharing that but pardon me for being a complete ignoramous, what's that got to do with TNS? Surely it did not cost as much as TOS to do? I mean, yes, it looks expensive and given the fluctuations of the currencies (you would not believe how much of an effect the strength of the Canadian dollar has on these things ) but surely that would have been factored in, etc. Not only that but we're talking about Sci-Fi here - which seems to have the same market penetration as Sky does in the UK (i.e. not much) but TNS still managed to make it into the weekly top 10 cable/satellite programmes (according to the Times 'Culture' section whenever I looked here in the UK. Perhaps I'm having a blonde moment here but... as far as I can see - Sci-fi have a show that is critically and commercially doing very well for itself, hell it seems to be increasing it's ratings... what's the problem?!

Been reading through and... the 'evidence' just doesn't add up for me. For example - the 'claim' (all my emphasis btw) that Sci-fi are now 'lowering' their expectations for the ratings. What were they expecting beforehand?! Same as say (shows utter ignorance of non-SF American TV here) CSI? Desperate Housewives?.. what? 'Scuse me?! It nearly broke SG:Atlantis' record for highest debut on the network, missing by 0.1 million. It's rated as the highest of the cable shows on a Friday night, since it started. You could even argue that it's just claimed one hell of a scalp (though, technically, that honour belongs to SG-1 as it airs at the same time... though I think that they'll be magnanimous and share! It's been getting good ratings on UK cable/satellite, not to mention funding from said organisation too (which is more than what the SG's get ) What more do they want? Critical raves? - got those. A move to repeat it on the 'parent' channel in the summer - pinch of salt rumour. Why would they be asking for six new scripts if they weren't willing to stick their necks out for a second series? Something doesn't quite add up here... unless I'm not looking at the whole picture here? Completely confused here!

Space 1999 would be GREAT if it got updated and turned all grown-up. I still love the original version of that show but a re-make'd be cool. I suspect that there're almost inevitably going to be BSG imitations in the future. It's set a new standard for the genre to aspire to and with the viewing figures we're getting it's got to be only a matter of time before some exec thinks 'hey, I want one of those...' I like your way of thinking! A new version of Space 1999 would rule! Though for obvious reasons, they'd have to change the title (was I the only one who kept a weather eye on the moon around the time it was supposed to go?! Yes, I am a ditz! ;D) and do something about the uniforms etc... oh the nostalgia of youth As for BSG imitators... If it stays on Sci-fi, I doubt it. We're talking tv execs here! Not exactly the brightest bulbs in the ceiling and besides... them watch something on a cable channel?! If it moves over to the parent network NBC and takes off the way we all know it should... then yes, I can see it happening! I mean, even over ten years down the line (yes, it really has been THAT long!) since the X-files started, it's spawning imitators. There was a show that is being piloted in the states, about a scientist and a priest that sounded so X-filesish that it was... spooky! So who knows... we'll have to see. Though let's be honest - money is going to be an issue... would execs rather spend x amount on a new reality tv show or spend y (x times 3) and produce a new, innovative drama that will be the delight of audiences, critics and advertisers alike? I think we know the answer to that one....

A golden calf? Doesn't have to be real gold--you could just spray paint it. The Lords are old...sight fading and all that... Well, if the family cat doesn't stop waking me up at three am, then he might find himself being sacrificed! Will have to work on this!

Dear sweet mother of Agent Smith! Did you just say TWENTY EPISODES?! I... ooo... arrrgh... Frak! *faints* *Picks herself up off the floor and dusts down* Ahem... first up, can I quote you? Secondly does this mean that (all being well... fingers crossed) that the UK and the US will get both series at the same time? Do you think that the Lords of Kobol will accept a rubber chicken as a worthy sacrifice? Or do I need to rustle up something more... substantial?

I've only ever popped over there once, perhaps twice when Gateworld was off-line. It was an 'interesting' experience Let's just say that their grasp of the english language was... tenuous at best. I don't mind the occassional dodgy spelling or slang (gods knows that I'm good at abusing the english language ) but text speak?! Not on the same boards as me thankee kindly! So I think I'll stay... much obliged!

If we must... can there please be some form of 'peace' between the 'different' groups? I lurk a lot in SG-1 fandom and there are certain places that mentioning you like a certain character will get you flambed! Heck, saying that you really liked Season 6 around some people will get you this Can't we all be one big, happy family? *flutters her eyelashes* Though I can see myself as a Roman (refering to BB's original post! ) The girl has taste! ;D

Absolutely correct my bad. Chan 4 sucks balls I still have nightmares of how they cut Angel to bits 'Lost' might go the same way as 'Desperate Housewives' given that it is a ratings winner in the US. Given that they are both dramas with a 'fantastic' edge, this might just work. So Channel 4 might 'push' that angle rather and make it 'cool' to watch rather than 'write it off' as being sci-fi programming and shove it in an appropriate slot... namely Sunday tea-time! It really does make me wonder why sci-fi has such a 'questionable' image. Is it because when it's done well it makes you think? Because it requires suspension of belief sometimes? What? Answers on a postcard please! ;D

Helo - I think that E4 have got 'Lost', which means that Channel 4 will get it. Which is a 'bad' thing as I noted above. Oh for the days when they showed Season 3 'Babylon 5' on a Sunday tea-time... Those were the days...

I haven't heard anything yet, but yes, this would be a very good thing as it would allow me to wave it in front of everyone going 'watch this - this is good sh*t!' Though knowing my luck it will be on something like Channel 4 on a Suday tea-time (where SG-1 is now) We really do NOT need that! First off, it would be cut to ribbons (full on male nudity is fine but I doubt that the opening of 'Kobol's last gleaming pt1' would get through unscathed) and secondly (at the risk of sounding about twice my age here ) the morons who present will just.... extract the urine Ours is not an easy lot in life

Howdo! I'm Beckymonster. I found out about you guys from a sig file from a fellow poster on the Empireonline boards... *paging Vinz Clortho!*
I get the impression that I'm going to like it here - alot! Anyone who has Babylon 5 avs instantly gets my vote (not to mention a very big hug as I adored that show!)
Yes, I am old enough to remember the original series - I could only have been about 7-8 years old at the time but I loved it (and had a huuuuuge crush on Starbuck). Wasn't too sure about this new series until Sky started showing it. I think by 'Act of Contrition' I was officially hooked!
Errr... don't know what else to say apart from hope we get a second series and inexpensive DVDs!
So that's me! ;D
